Dental Exams & Cleanings

Brushing and flossing alone can’t remove plaque or other problem-causing bacteria from your mouth. Keeping your smile healthy and clean also requires professional help, like a routine dental exam and cleaning every six months or more. But no matter how long it’s been since your last dental visit, Dr. Ghimire and our friendly team at Paris Mountain Dental are here to help. If you’re due for a routine dental exam and cleaning, contact our office today!

What is a dental exam?

Dental exams help our dental professionals, like Dr. Ghimire or our friendly dental hygienist, locate dental issues before they worsen. Dental exams can discover tooth decay, chips, or cracks that might cause tooth loss or other problems, but they can also assure you that you are on the right path with your oral health! During a dental exam, special dental tools like a sickle probe and mirror will be used to help us perform the comprehensive dental exam effectively.

How often should I have a dental exam and cleaning?

The American Dental Association recommends visiting a dentist for an exam and cleaning every six months. However, this interval could look different for everyone depending on their oral health. Patients with periodontal disease or other dental problems are suggested to receive a dental exam and cleaning more frequently. When you visit our office for a dental exam and cleaning, we’ll establish a baseline for your oral health and discuss how often you should visit.

Can I eat after a dental exam and cleaning?

Unless you receive a fluoride treatment with your comprehensive dental exam, you can eat after an exam and cleaning. With fluoride treatment, we suggest patients wait at least 30 minutes before eating. By waiting, the fluoride has time to take effect and absorb into the teeth. If your teeth experience sensitivity after a dental cleaning, we suggest eating soft and room-temperature foods until they return to normal.
